Agree completely – both about Robert Donat and the film itself. :-) I watched this film when I must’ve been about 10 or 11 years old, and loved it so much, I kept an eye out for the book after that. When I finally found the book and read it, I was pretty disappointed, because the film seemed to me to have been so much better.

If you haven’t already watched it, another early Hitchcock that I’d suggest (it reminds me in some ways of The 39 Steps, actually) is The Lady Vanishes – fast-paced, good fun, and with a nice romance too. :-)

I had to stop myself from gushing about Robert Donat over and over again. He’s just so good. I did look over the book summary, and it doesn’t seem at all like the film. I mean, no romance? I’m just a sucker for romance, yes, I know. But still! And as I mentioned, there’s no fun escape on the bridge. That was the first thing that ever made me like Robert Donat. :P

Cool, I’ll watch that! I love Hitchcock films. Though I saw “Suspicion” and that whole thing is just so BIPOLAR. SO BIPOLAR. One minute everyone’s happy, next everyone’s upset, then happy, then upset, happy, someone’s dead, etc.

I can see it now – it’s the first on the page, but it says “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”
